Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is a popular choice for many beginners as it focuses on only has 26 poses and there’s lots of alignment work . By starting with Bikram you can practice and master the body alignment while learning the basic poses so it might be a good fit for beginners. Find Out More>>

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is also a popular choice for beginners and it typically requires a lot of breath work. Hartha classes are usually focused on slow and gentle movements so it’s a great type of yoga to wind down with at night. Find Out More>>

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga is generally known as a fast-paced type of yoga with lots of different poses and can be more physically demanding than other forms. Other than starting with a sun salutation, no class you  attend will be repetitive. Vinyasa Yoga is good for those who get bored easily because every class will different, new and interesting. Kundalini Yoga

“Kundalini” refers to the energy of the Root Chakra, which surrounds the area around your lower spine.  This type of yoga is good for strengthening your core and abdominal area. If you experience lower back weakness, this type of yoga is for you. Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is more physically demanding than other types. It is more suited for an ex-athlete or somebody wanting to sculpt their body. Ashtanga is commonly called Power yoga due to its advanced techniques. Find Out More>>

Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga uses lots of props so expect to become familiar with using blocks, harnesses, straps, and even cushions. There’s also a lot of focus on  body alignment so Iyengar can be great for physical therapy. This type is thought to have great results in recovery from accident or serious illness. Find Out More>>

Anusara Yoga

This is a reasonably new type of yoga which was founded in 1997 by John Friend. Anusara is epitomized by “the celebration of the heart”. It is one of the more spiritual types of yoga so you should expect a more upbeat, community and friendship vibe in a class. Find Out More>>

Kripalu Yoga

Kripalu Yoga is known as one of the most gentle forms of yoga. Kripalu is more of an “inner focus”  type of yoga. It is considered to be one of the best types of yoga for those people who are either out-of-shape or just beginning to practice yoga. Restorative Yoga

Jivamukti Yoga

Jivamukti Yoga is mostly practiced in New York City as it was founded there in 1984. Many celebrities follow and practice this type of yoga. Christy Turlington and Sting are known to be  fans of Jivamukti.     There are many more types of Yoga. I have only include the most popular types here because to explain all the different types of Yoga may be confusing. Some types are very similar to others so I have included the mainstream types that are commonly practiced.

    You are right when you say yoga is good for the body and the mind and might I also add Yoga is also good for the our core being, our spirit. It’s all about balance and being at one with your environment. Practicing Yoga assists the harmonious balance with all three, body mind and spirit.
