Pilates Instructor Certification – Mat Certification

Mat instructor training is generally available to Pilates students who have demonstrated a basic aptitude and skill in in their Pilates  classes. It is recommended that you ought to study Pilates for a while before taking a teacher training class, though unfortunately, not all certifying bodies require their trainee applicants to have previous Pilates experience.

Pilates mat instructor training will cover all basic mat workout routines, together with ways to alter them for different groups and varying ages of pilates students. Be expecting the mat instructor exam to include a training demonstration as well as a written test.

Basic Mat Instructor certification is usually offered as a weekend intensive, or over the course of two weekends, dependent upon the facility or agency that will be training you. Again, consumers need to be aware that Pilates mat training isn’t yet standardized, so you will probably get what you pay for. Do some research the certifying body, agency or facility that you have an interest in and make sure that it meets your needs and standards.

A potential student is usually essential to have accomplished no less than a year of Pilates study, together with a number of private lessons. Completion of pilates mat certification or other pilates training will probably be preferred as well.

At this level, the student will undertake a vital education in anatomy and physiology, the history of Joseph Pilates and the history and evolution of the Pilates Exercise Method. You will also receive in-depth training about the physical exercises for all the Pilates equipment and apparatus including their multiple uses and modifications.

As Pilates certification becomes more standardized, there’s a trend toward dividing the complete Pilates instructor certification course into a number of levels. Each certification program has will likely have it’s own curriculum design as they differ widely. As an example, you might see a course where there is a level of study for the reformer, another for the cardiac exercises and other apparatuses. There could also be varying training concentrating on different ability groups, for example running classes for beginners, intermediate or advance pilates students. There could also be separate training for  running classes for the aged or for those who have special needs. Every level could be intensive instructor training, or taught over a period of time.

Comprehensive certifications can take over a year of training to complete, and often requires many hours spent inside the studio as an trainee teacher. Trainee hours requirements might be as much as nine hundred hours to be completed within that year.

The associated fees for Full Pilates Instructor Certification varies as much as the agencies do. However, you could anticipate to pay no less than $3,000, probably more, for comprehensive certification.

It is always best to do your homework before signing up for Pilates Instructor Certification training and see if you can find previous students who are currently employed as Pilates  Instructors to find out if their training met their needs.

I think that comprehensive Pilates Instructor Certification based on many hundreds of hours of experience is very important for both the client and the practitioner. With so much training, the practitioner feels more confident and this confidence begets greater faith in the practitioner from the client that inevitably results in subsequent better outcomes for the client.

  4. I never knew pilates instructor certification was so involved or expensive. Given that there aren’t accepted mat instructor standards it makes sense to shop around and get feedback from others as to which course is going to be the best for your needs.

    Thanks for your comment Wal.
I agree it is really important to have a really well trained Pilates instructor especially if you are a beginner or have any pre-existing health conditions. It is also important that the Pilates student is able to communicate well with their instructor about their pilates program so the best results can be gained.
