What is Pilates?
A lot of us are unsure exactly What is Pilates. The easy definition of Pilates is it’s an exercise system that is targeted on building body strength, agility and flexibility without bulk. It was intended to build flexible and lean muscle as opposed to weight lifters who strive for muscle bulk. Pilates focuses on improving flexibility and agility, and helping to prevent the body from injury.
Pilates Origins.
It was developed during the 1920s by Joseph H. Pilates, who was a physical trainer and founding father of The New York Pilates Studio. Pilates in practice involves a series of controlled actions that have interaction both your body and mind.
What is a Pilates Class like?
This system of exercise incorporates specifically designed exercise apparatus and is supervised by highly trained teachers. It had been primarily created for rehabilitation, but was soon after adopted by dancers and athletes and is now utilized by many millions owing to it’s substantial benefits and availability.
A Pilates beginner class typically consists of very gentle physical exercises completed on a mat in either a sitting or lying down position. The primary focus is on awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility. The outcome of Pilates training is often a well balanced body which is strong and supple, flat stomach, balanced legs, and a strong back.
More advanced lessons can be very physically and mentally challenging so it’s best to begin with a beginners class and work your way up.
You might expect to implement certain devices and apparatus during a Pilates class which can include:-
- Stretchable bands to increase resistance in stretches.
- Large inflatable balls to give support and improve balance.
- Pilates rebounded trampolines either with or without a support handle.
- Pilates reformer machines which are a large aparatus that are more likely used in private coaching.
